Disability Awareness Week

Society’s Assets sponsors a banquet in May each year during Disability Awareness Week to recognize the abilities of people with disabilities and to promote the removal of barriers for people with disabilities. The banquet, held at a local banquet hall, features a reception hour, dinner, keynote speaker of interest, proclamations by government officials, recognition of retiring Board members and staff service awards. The Accessibility Award and Community Advocate Award are presented at the banquet too. The top fund raisers from Pat’s Walk are also recognized. This event is open to the public. Reservations are required. Cost depends on menu choice. Call the main office in Racine for more information and to sign up, (262) 637-9128.

Holiday Banquet

Each year, Society’s Assets sponsors a holiday banquet at a local banquet hall. The community is invited to join in this celebration of the season. The evening begins with a reception hour, continues with dinner and music for listening and dancing. Winning youth art contest entries are on display. Surprises and prizes add to the evening. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the main office in Racine, (262) 637-9128. Cost depends on menu choice.

Pat’s Walk

Usually held in September, Pat’s Walk is a pledge and prize event that raises money for the Society’s Assets Transportation Fund. This fund subsidizes social, recreational and educational outings coordinated for Society’s Assets consumers. Without the support of the Transportation Fund, many consumers would be unable to participate in special events outside their homes.

Participants in Pat’s Walk register at no cost. They walk or roll (use a wheelchair, scooter or stroller). Wheelchair pushers are available. Pledges are encouraged and prizes are awarded based on the amount of money raised. Participants are treated to a Finish Line Party/Lunch.

The event is held in memory of Pat Anderson of Racine, a woman committed to ensuring the rights of people with disabilities. She was dedicated to making the community accessible for everyone. Pat’s Walk celebrates disability awareness and a future without barriers. Contact the main office in Racine for more information or to request a registration/pledge form, (262) 637-9128. Society’s Assets Open

Held each summer at a premier golf facility in the area, the Society’s Assets Open raises funds for scholarship awards for students with disabilities. The 2011 event will be held on Monday, June 20th at the Kenosha Country Club.  Participants in the Open enjoy a full day of golf and other related activities. Prizes for skill and fun are awarded. A raffle and silent auction are held. Non-golfers can join the group for the 19th Hole reception, dinner and scholarship presentations. Corporate sponsors also lend their support to this effort, which has awarded over $60,000 in scholarships since 1998. Corporate sponsors can choose from a variety of participation levels. Donated items are welcome for the silent auction. For more information about the Open, call the main office in Racine, (262) 637-9128. Click here for a registration form.
