Accessibility Award

Society’s Assets recognizes area businesses for increasing accessibility to their products and services for people with disabilities. Candidates for nomination could have completed:

  • New construction
  • Renovations
  • Enhancements to a standard design or service

Nomination forms are available from the main office in Racine and are due April 1 of each year. Award recipients are honored during Disability Awareness Week in May.

Community Advocate of the Year Award

With this annual award named after the agency’s founding director, Society’s Assets recognizes an individual for efforts on behalf of people with disabilities. Award nominees must have been actively involved in self-advocacy or system advocacy over the previous year. In the past, award recipients have addressed issues like:

  • Accessibility
  • Employment
  • Housing
  • Communication

Scholarship Awards

People with disabilities can apply for scholarship awards, generally ranging between $500 and $5000. Applicants must reside in the Society’s Assets service area that includes Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, Rock and Jefferson counties. Graduating high school seniors, continuing students or adults returning to school on a full-time basis to seek a post-secondary university or vocational degree are eligible. Judging is based on academic record, extracurricular activities, personal essay and recommendations. Applications are available in October and must be submitted by February 1 of each year. Proceeds from the Society’s Assets Open, a golf outing held each June, are used to fund the Scholarship Awards.

Youth Art Contest

Each September, students in grades kindergarten through high school in the agency’s service area of Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, Rock and Jefferson counties are invited to participate in the youth art contest. The contest theme is “Ability. . .Not Disability” and features two-dimensional artwork submitted by the second Monday in November of each year. All students that enter receive a gift. Cash prizes of $100, $50 and $25 are awarded to first, second and third place entrants in each of four grade categories. The winning entries in each grade category are permanently displayed in the Society’s Assets main office. Artwork is also incorporated into agency materials. Note cards, cookbooks and calendars are available for purchase. Official entry blanks are available from the main office in Racine.
